Protect and Preserve Our Neighborhoods and Quality of Life
Under the leadership of the Cahn Team, Cherry Hill has gained national recognition for its quality of life, and in 2016, the Township was named one of the Best Places to Live in the United States by Money Magazine.
We continue to maintain a strong mix of residential and commercial growth, with an emphasis on preserving open space and enhancing recreational opportunities in every corner of town. While abandoned properties continue to plague municipalities and cities across the nation, we are enacting strict new regulations and innovative programs compelling banks to return empty and foreclosed homes to the market at a faster rate. By providing capital grants to youth sports leagues, we benefit thousands of Cherry Hill families and ensure top notch recreation programs for our youth. By working closely with our 13 local swim clubs we continue to ensure they remain as a treasured piece of Cherry Hill’s fabric and local tradition. Keeping up with critical infrastructure improvements is important to the quality of life of our residents. Under the leadership of the Cahn Team, more than 60 of our town’s worst roads have been repaved, and the Township has replaced equipment in parks, playgrounds, and at sport courts throughout the township.
Make the Right Choices to Save Taxpayers Money
The Chuck Cahn Team has worked for six years to prioritize efficient, effective management, continued ratable growth, and long-term, “big-picture” planning – and today, those choices are paying off.
No increase in municipal taxes in five years. New economic growth and redevelopment have increased commercial ratables, creating added revenue to invest back into the community, while helping to offset the burden on residential taxpayers. This growth enables investment in roads, parks and playgrounds, our sewer systems and township facilities, and provides stability to implement long-term planning to ensure the future economic health of our community. We will continue to stand with Cherry Hill parents and students to advocate for increased state funding to support public education in Cherry Hill. A strong credit rating is essential to our town’s health, and will significantly impact our ability to plan for and secure a stable future for Cherry Hill. Moody’s Investors Service cited Cherry Hill’s smart fiscal management, conservative budgeting and aggressive reduction of debt service in issuing the town a Aa1 bond rating in 2017 – the highest rating of any town in Camden County.
Run an Independent, Transparent and Accountable Government
We believe that government transparency is critical to our success. We have created a system for residents to not only request services, but to also access records and news with ease anytime.Launched CHIP, the Cherry Hill Information Portal, which has put public information and government services at residents’ fingertips 24/7.
CHIP is a one-stop destination that provides the public with access to local information and services wherever you are, whenever you need it.
Residents can pay bills, request service, report issues and request public records through CHIP.
Make Community Engagement and Input a Priority
Connecting with residents is a top priority for our team, we will continue to implement the latest ways to communicate and engage our residents on a regular basis.
We communicate regularly with residents through direct mail, newsletters, social media, and our website. Residents can sign-up to receive text message alerts and weekly emails and even customize the topics they are interested in. Attendance and input at public meetings is encouraged. In addition, all township resolutions, ordinances, agendas, and minutes are available and searchable for public viewing online.Created a new Human Relations Committee of local civic and religious leaders to celebrate Cherry Hill's diverse population, and promote a culture of peace, equality, and inclusiveness for all our residents.
Build a Greener, More Sustainable Township for Future Generations
Keeping our community healthy is extremely important to us. We will continue to work with residents and stakeholders to implement policies and programs that maintain green spaces, promote healthy living, and help to preserve the environment around us.
Adopted one of the state’s first municipal sustainability plans. Launched the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign to promote healthy living for residents. Implemented a smoking ban on all public lands and at township facilities. Passed a comprehensive pedestrian and bicycle master plan, with safe routes that provide connections throughout town and within neighborhoods for walking, jogging, and biking. We continue to invest in our town’s nationally recognized trail system. Preserved over 175 acres of open space, and will continue to ensure the protection of our remaining open spaces by revitalizing existing properties.
